What do an actress, an architect, a chef, a video game developer, an aeronautical designer, a musician, a dressmaker, and an artisan have in common? They all interact in the Orange Economy. The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has defined the Orange Economy as the set of activities that –in an interlocking way– allow for ideas to be transformed into cultural goods and services, the value of which is determined by their intellectual property content. Thus, creativity, innovation, and culture become components of a large ecosystem where creators, cultural managers, NGOs, private enterprises, and governments are also involved, representing a significant economic and social drive for any country. In Latin America and the Caribbean, our cultural, creative, and innovation industries are strongly developed. We also own a valuable cultural and artistic heritage; therefore, our region constitutes a space of potential development through the Orange Economy.
